Description

This method is for determining the oxidation-reduction potential in clean water. After pointing out some general characteristics of redox reactions and the shortcomings of its measurements, the method explains the principles of determining the redox potential. Following this general introduction, the apparatus, reagents, and procedure are detailed. Sections on troubleshooting, the calculation to be used, and precision and bias conclude the method. Three tables are included: the first one gives the potential of ZoBell's Solution as a function of temperature, the next details the preparation of redox standard solutions; and the last gives recommended combinations for selected sample types.
